Mrs. Nancy Buckelew

Nancy Jane McDaniel Buckelew, age 74, passed away on April 10, 2017. She was born to the late Walter Alfred McDaniel and Oma Jewel Mann McDaniel on March 7th, 1943 in Gadsden, Alabama. She was an adventurous little girl who loved the outdoors and would rather be in the barn with the animals or down by the creek than inside canning or cleaning. She was an active high schooler at Etowah High School who was a flag carrier in the band and was involved in many activities and clubs. She graduated in 1961. She married her high school sweetheart, the late Claude Hollis “Buck” Buckelew, on September 9, 1961. They operated several businesses through the years including a motel, an auto parts shop, and sold Fiesta dishes and antiques. She was a wonderful, beloved mother to her two children, Christopher Daniel Buckelew (Sheila) and Deborah Lynn Buckelew Susanto (Louis). She loved her church, especially missions. She also spent many hours cultivating her garden and planting. She is survived by her sister, Peggy McDaniel Smart (Boyd), Grandchildren, Kailey Buckelew Clarke (Jessie), Christopher JohnPaul Buckelew, Brittney Harden Gidley (Devin), Kendall Harden Gilbert (Matthew),Great Grandchildren, Carter and Arabella Gidley, and Reid Gilbert. Nieces, Kathy Keck Thorton (Jerry), Karen Keck Machen, Sandra Tanner Starnes (Danny). Great-Nephew, Micah Daniel Starnes, numerous friends, cousins and other relatives. She is predeceased by her husband Claude Hollis “Buck” Buckelew (Jan. 2008), and her sister Betty McDaniel Vance (Feb. 2017). Pallbearers will be Mack Starnes, Danny Starnes, Louis Susanto, Buddy Townsend, JohnPaul Buckelew, Matthew Gilbert, and Devin Gidley. Honorary pallbearers will be Boyd Smart, Jerry Foster, Troy Mack Willet, Frank McDaniel, and Bobby McKee. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 12th, from 5:30 - 8:00pm at Adams-Brown Funeral Home, Albertville, AL. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church Albertville, AL on Thursday, April 13th at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the missions fund of First Baptist Church Albertville, AL or Shepherd’s Cove Hospice of Marshall County.
