Mr. Jimmy Kimsey

November 11, 1939 - November 1, 2020

Jimmy (“Jim”) Ray Kimsey passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 in Harlingen, Texas at the age of 80. He was a resident of Albertville, Alabama during the summer months and Harlingen, Texas during the winter months. Jimmy was born on a sharecropper farm near Skirum in DeKalb County Alabama. His parents were Garland and Audie Kimsey and he had one sister, Barbara Kimsey Long, and one brother, Charles Kimsey. Jimmy’s first wife was Judy Hall Kimsey from the Whiton community in DeKalb County Alabama. They met on a blind date as Judy was a last minute fill-in for another date who developed a case of the mumps. They were later married in 1961 and remained married until Judy’s death in 1987. They had two children, Carla Kimsey Vinson and Jonathan Kimsey. While spending the winter in south Texas, Jimmy met Vera Blevins. Their story began at the Honda dealership in Harlingen, Texas while having their cars serviced. They were married in 2012 and remained happily married until Jimmy’s passing with Vera by his side. Jimmy graduated from Geraldine High School in 1958. Although not provided the opportunity to attend college, he began a banking career that spanned forty years with his first job as a teller. When he retired in 1999, he was serving as President and CEO of The Home Bank in Guntersville, Alabama. HIs professional education included graduation from the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University and the Commercial Lending Graduate School at the University of Oklahoma. Jimmy also obtained the Certified Commercial Lender and Certified Bank Auditor designations. Jimmy walked faithfully with our Lord Jesus Christ throughout his life. He acknowledged that any blessings in his life were a gift from our heavenly Father. He especially loved gospel music and old hymns. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Albertville. Jimmy is survived by his brother, Charles Kimsey, his loving wife, Vera Kimsey, five children including Carla Kimsey Vinson, Jonathan Kimsey, Jacque Cantu Wright, Mike Cantu and Greg Blevins, six grandchildren including Lindsey Vinson Knott, Carlee Vinson Smithwick, Austin Wright, Garrett Wright, Addyson Cantu and Joseph Blevins. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11:00am at Adams Brown Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 10:00 am prior to the service. Social distancing guidelines will be observed and a facial mask will be required. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice 408 Martling Road Albertville, Alabama.
