Mr. Robert Wayne Golden

Robert Wayne Golden of Albertville, age 76, died Friday, February 2, 2018 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Adams-Brown chapel in Albertville with Rev. Neeley Lane of First Presbyterian Church Tuscaloosa officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Wayne’s beloved wife of 55 years, Doris Golden, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Clara Golden, and his brothers Hugh Don and Del Golden. Robert Wayne Golden was born December 28, 1941 in Gadsden. After graduating from Emma Sansom High School, he attended Jacksonville State University, where he was a member of the Marching Southerners and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He married Doris Ann Baker on August 18, 1962. An accomplished musician who could play all band instruments, Wayne specialized in bassoon, trumpet and soprano sax. As a young man, he played in the horn section of the Brimstone Gang band and worked as the band director of General Forrest Junior High School. Wayne spent most of his working years as a music instrument salesman for Gadsden Music Company. Wayne enjoyed dove hunting, crappie fishing, reading, crossword puzzles, yard sales, Alabama football, and being a Papa to his grandsons. While his children were in school, he was actively involved in the Albertville Aggie Band Booster Club, serving as Booster Club President. He was an active member of The Fellowship church in Albertville, singing in the choir and forming the orchestra. He took pride in teaching several adults to play musical instruments so they could play in church. Wayne also played in community orchestras and various church ensembles. Wayne’s survivors include his son Marc Golden (Michelle) of Hokes Bluff, daughter Stephanie Hickman (Scott) of Tuscaloosa, and his three treasured grandsons Will Hickman, John Robert Golden, and Baker Hickman. He is also survived by his sister Marlene Gaither, brother David Golden (Mary Ann), several nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Will Hickman, John Robert Golden, and Baker Hickman, as well as family friends Rod Ferguson, Mickey Fisher, and Terry Gladden. Honorary pallbearers are the employees and customers of Gadsden Music Company.
