Mrs. Evelyn D Wester

Evelyn Decker Wester, age 92, passed away peacefully February 10, 2018. She grew up in the Whiton Community of Dekalb County where she joined the Whiton Methodist Church at the age of nine. She was a graduate of Geraldine High School, Snead State Junior College & Auburn University, Class of 1946, with a degree in Home Economics. Mrs. Wester was married to her husband Willard Wester for 57 years, making their home in Geraldine, Al for most of their married life. She taught school at Geraldine Elementary, Geraldine High School, Crossville High School and Alabama Avenue Middle School in Albertville. She was a dedicated teacher who enjoyed staying in touch with her former students throughout the years. Mrs. Wester was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Geraldine for over fifty years and a member of the Albertville First United Methodist Church for the past sixteen years. She loved God, her church, her family and her many friends. She enjoyed people of all ages and walks of life, was an avid reader and a gracious homemaker. Mrs. Wester will be greatly missed by surviving family and friends who include daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Joseph Foshee of Boaz; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Cindy Wester of Trussville; grandchildren, Derek and Jennifer Wester of Birmingham; Rebecca Wester of Trussville; Ryan Foshee of Auburn; and Kyle and Courtney Foshee of Cullman; great grandchildren, Cole and Lily Wester of Birmingham; sisters-in-law, Laura Decker of Whiton; Louise Cowan and Betty Wester of Trussville; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Amon Willard Wester; parents, Robert Brockman and Beulah Cooper Decker; brothers, Arvil Decker and Arnold Decker; and sisters, Nell Landers and Ruth Bowman. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 13, 2018, from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at Whiton Community Cemetery. Bro. Barry Dunn and Bro. Tony Gunter will officiate. The family would like to thank the staff at Albertville Nursing Home and Shepherd’s Cove Hospice for their kind and dedicated care. In addition, we would like to express our gratitude to Joan Lang for her assistance and friendship. In lieu of flowers the family will gratefully accept memorials to the Spina Bifida Association of Alabama, P.O. Box 35, Gadsden Al 35902.
